An Autumn Affair for Michelle and John

On October 9, 2021, Michelle Pios and John Cerpnjak said their vows in front of family and friends. Since the pandemic began, weddings have often been postponed, so when Michelle and John were able to move forward with their wedding last fall, we knew it was going to be special. Every person in the room could feel just how lucky they were to be celebrating this incredible couple, and to be surrounded by so much love.

The Attire

Planning with Michelle and John was a breeze, and we quickly understood that this was a couple who paid attention to detail. They knew what they wanted, and to be honest, we loved that about them. But when Michelle chose her dress, it threw her for a loop, because it wasn’t the style she thought she would end up with. We had to work out how we would combine their edgy decor style with their regal attire. And trust us, it turned out to be absolutely stunning.

The wedding day kicked off at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in downtown Toronto. Michelle and her bridesmaids got ready at the hotel while John and his groomsmen were at their apartment downtown. John and his groomsmen wore navy blue suits, black shoes, and pocket squares that matched the decor in a patterned burnt orange with greenery and black accents. The contrasting warm and cool tones popped so beautifully.

Michelle wore an off the shoulder, fitted, white gown with an overskirt for the ceremony. She wore a pearl headband and tulle veil, and heels adorned with crystals. We’re not joking when we say she looked like an actual Queen. Michelle completely blew her mom, dad, and bridesmaids away during the first-look. *cue the tears!*

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the SOCO ballroom at the Delta hotel. Michelle and John’s wedding palette was leafy greens, champagne, ivory, with pops of apricot, peach, and copper accents. The only issue was that the ballroom decor was mostly blue tones. Michelle and John fell in love with the windows and light in the room, so we knew we had to transform the space into their dream venue.

The team at Encore Global used white vinyl flooring to cover the carpet in the ballroom for a sleek look, and added white sheers from floor to ceiling to cover the walls. Now that we had a clean, white base, we had to bring in the colour. Ashton Creative completely brought the vision to life with a four-post, copper arbour with roses, hydrangeas, and eucalyptus in peach, ivory, and petal pink.

At the entrance of the ballroom was two white pedestals with large white urns and matching floral arrangements to the ceremony structure. Each aisle chair had a cluster of pillar candles at the base for added romance.

The Reception

The reception took place at Steam Whistle Brewery in Pilsner Hall. Michelle and John focused on mixed metals, wood, black accents, and peachy florals. We absolutely loved that their ceremony and reception spaces felt different yet cohesive, by weaving the same colours throughout each event.

Table settings were brought in by Event Rental Group to make the space feel more like Michelle and John. They chose dark grey napkins, marble charger plates, and copper cutlery. The warm tones from the copper accents tied in perfectly with the wood accents of the venue, tables, and chairs. Each charger plate had a personalized menu card, made by Pretty In Print Design Co. The menu cards were circular with a black base, peach and ivory toned floral, and clean white typography. Matte black or white dishes were used depending on which entree option was chosen, which provided a variety to each table as dinner began.

As dinner service started, speeches and dances began and we got to witness one of the best father-daughter dances we have ever seen! Michelle and her dad did a choreographed dance to various songs, and even stopped for a moment to take a shot on the dance floor. All eyes were on Michelle and John during their first dance to Come And Get Your Love by Redbone. We love that they chose an upbeat song and that they had so much fun as they danced into newlywed bliss.

The Extra Details

As the party started, Michelle and John’s guests headed over to the photo booth that was fully loaded with props. The dance floor filled as guests let loose before heading over to the dessert table.

As the Pretty Plans team packed up for the evening, we had a chance to talk to Michelle and John and wish them all the best. This couple was so much fun to work with, and had such a beautiful vision for their day. The one thing we took away from Michelle and John’s wedding is that they really know how to have fun. The energy and love felt in the room is something that we will always cherish. Cheers to Michelle and John!
